Abstract:

Sepsis is a major cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) with high morbidity and mortality. The mechanism of septic AKI is complicated and poorly illustrated, while no effective etiological treatment is available. Studies regarding novel therapeutic targets for septic AKI are in need. Recent researches have revealed that mitochondrial dysfunction is profoundly involved in the pathophysiology of sepsis as well as septic AKI, which might be a promising target of intervention. In this review, we summarized the progress in the understanding towards septic AKI and mitochondrial dysfunction for the reference of whom it may concern.
