Intensive care unit-acquired infections in immunocompromised patients

Abstract:  Immunocompromised patients constitute an increasing proportion of intensive care unit (ICU) patients and  have  a  higher  risk  of  infection.  The  most  common  ICU-acquired  infections  in  immunocompromised  patients  are ventilator-associated pneumonia  and  bloodstream  infections. This  article  provides  an  overview  of  the  pathogenesis,  major categories,   diagnostic   methods,   therapeutic   strategies,   assessment   of   immune   status,   and   the   application   of immunomodulators in the management of ICU-acquired infections in immunocompromised patients.
