A bibliometric analysis of Chinese literature on secondary hyperparathyroidism in chronic kidney disease based on CiteSpace software

Abstract: Objective: To analyze the Chinese literature on secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) related to chronic kidney disease and explore the research trends, hotspots, and frontiers in this field.
Methodology: Utilizing CiteSpace 6.3.R3 visualization software, a visual analysis was conducted on authors, institutions, and keywords associated with SHPT-related literature from CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and SinoMed over the past two decades.
Results: A total of 3630 articles on SHPT, involving 683 institutions and 1049 authors, were analyzed. Publications have increased, but collaboration among institutions and authors is limited. Key research areas include uremia, hemodialysis, and mechanisms of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorders, such as calcium and phosphorus metabolism, bone density, and metabolism. Diagnosis and treatment areas, including vitamin D, ultrasound, cinacalcet, and surgical interventions, are also significant. Research priorities have shifted, with recent focus on calcimimetics, kidney transplantation, radiofrequency ablation, recurrence, hypocalcemia, osteoporosis, and surgery-related issues, highlighting current research hotspots and future directions.
Conclusion: This study analyzes the evolution of research on SHPT in China over the past two decades. This study delineates the progression of research trends and current focal areas in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorders, as well as SHPT, within China.
