Abstract:

Histone deacetylases (HDAC) are a family of enzymes that remove acetyl groups from lysine amino acid of histone and nonhistone proteins.HDAC epigenetic regulated gene expression and affect cellular functions.Recent studies point to a critical roles for histone acetylation and deacetylation in the pathogenesis of kidney disease,including podocyte injury.This article reviews the current understanding of roles for individual HDAC isozymes in podocyte injury.
