Abstract:
ABSTRACT Object:To discuss the feasibility of tissue-engineered blood vascular(TEBV) as hemodialysis access. Methodology:The recent literatures about TEBV as arteriovenous access for hemodialysis were widely reviewed. Animal and clinical studies were summarized and evaluated. Results:Vascular graft with sufficient mechanical properties can be built by sheet-based tissue engineering and effectiveness of grafts by simplified sheet-based tissue engineering were testified in a series of animal and clinical studies as arteriovenous access. Recently,a kind of TEBV grafts cultured in a bioreactor that delivers cyclic radial strain were tested in a baboon model as competent arterial bypass and may provide a readily available option for hemodialysis. Conclusion:It is feasible to use TEBV grafts to build hemodialysis access and worth of further study.
