Abstract:

Increasing incidences of diabetes have made diabetic nephrolpathy (DN) the leading cause of secondary kidney disease and endstage renal disease in the world.Compelling and mounting evidence has clearly demonstrated that immunity and inflammation plays a paramount role in the pathogenesis of DN.This article reviews the involvement of immune system in DN and identifies important roles of key immune and inflammatory mediators.Serum amyloid A (SAA),a major acutephase protein, appears to be relatively specific for DN.Jmjd3,a histone H3 lysine 27 (H3K27) demethylase,is highly inducible in SAAstimulated macrophages and plays an important role in the induction of inflammatory cytokine genesThe association between SAA and epigenetic regulatory of proinflammatory cytokine is also discussed in this paper.
