Abstract:

Metabolic disorders, which directly or indirectly cause structural and functional damage to the kidneys, are currently one of the leading causes of chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease. With changes in human lifestyles and dietary habits, unhealthy diets (such as high sugar, high salt, high fat, and high purine foods) and sedentary lifestyles have led to a significant increase in the prevalence of metabolic dysfunction and related complications (e.g., fatty liver, cardiovascular diseases, and chronic kidney disease). This article reviews the pathogenesis and research progress of metabolism-related kidney diseases, including diabetic nephropathy, hypertensive nephropathy, hyperuricemic/gouty nephropathy, obesity-associated glomerulopathy, dyslipidemia-related renal damage, and metabolic syndrome-induced renal injury, aiming to enhance understanding of these conditions and provide new insights for clinical diagnosis, treatment, and related drug development.
