Abstract: Catheter exit site infection (ESI) is a common complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD), and a major risk factor for peritonitis or catheter removal. Early diagnosis, intensive treatment and prevention of catheter ESI is the key to ensure longterm PD therapy. Once catheter ESI occurred in PD patients, the relevant factors should be removed as soon as possible, antibiotics should be used rationally, catheter removal and replacement may be indicated. In this paper, we review the latest progress in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of PD catheter ESI.
