Abstract:
Solitary kidney is the remnant renal after one renal missing because of congenital or acquired diseases.It always companies with other system malformations.Compensatory hypertrophy and hyperfiltration of the remnant renal is suggested to result in hypertension,proteinuria,even Endstage renal disease,thereby affecting the quality of life and increasing social burden.However the progress of renal function and related risk factors in patients with solitary kidney have not been fully elucidated.This paper reviews the etiology,concomitant diseases,clinical outcomes,related factors affecting renal function progression,and the protection of remnant function kidney in order to improve clinicians understanding of isolated kidney and pay more attention to the protection of renal function and longterm followup.
