Abstract:

Objective:To investigate the influence of berberine on intestinal bifidobacterium and inflammatory factors in metabolic syndrome patients with renal damage.
Methodology:Twenty metabolic syndrome patients with renal damage were randomly divided into basic treatment group (control group,n=10) and berberine group (treatment group,n=10).Berberine was describe with basic treatment for 8 weeks. At the same time,10 healthy persons who  matched sex and age were selected as normal group.
Results:After 8 weeks of treatment,BMI,SBP,DBP,FBG,2hPBG,FINS,TG,LDLC and UmALb/Ucr was decreased significantly in the treatment group (P<005);SBP,DBP and UmALb/Ucr in control group was also significantly decreased (P<005).There were statistically significance.in BMI,FBG,2hPBG,FINS,TG and LDLC (P<005) between two groups. After 8 weeks of treatment, blood and urine IL6 in change treatment group was decreased significantly, while that of control group did not change significantly (P<005).After 8 weeks of treatment, the number of intestinal bifidobacteria in treatment group was increased significantly, while that of control group did not  significantly (P<005).Spearman correlation analysis showed that the intestinal bifidobacteria were negatively correlated with  blood and urine IL6.
Conclusion:
Berberine can increase the number of intestinal bifidobacterium, and reduce  of serum and urine IL6 levels in patients with metabolic syndrome conbined with renal damage, improve  metabolic disorder of  glucose and lipid, reducing fasting insulin  and body weight.
