Abstract:
Eosinophilic peritonitis (EP) represents a non-infectious form of peritoneal dialysis (PD)-associated peritonitis, which can result in peritoneal injury, fibrosis, and ultimately, technical failure. This paper presents the clinical data, laboratory findings, therapeutic course, and prognosis of three patients diagnosed with EP. Abnormal PD fluid was observed in all three patients within 1 to 9 days following PD catheter insertion, leading to a confirmed diagnosis of EP upon examination. Consequently, it is advisable to routinely monitor the cell count in PD fluid during postoperative peritoneal lavage with PD fluid. In cases where PD fluid appears turbid yet culture results are negative, a further examination involving cell count and differential should be conducted to swiftly identify the specific type of peritonitis, thereby facilitating early and precise treatment while preventing the indiscriminate use of antibiotics.
