Abstract:
RNA modification is a chemical modification that occurs at different atoms of a base, and more than 170 modifications have been identified on RNA to date. A growing body of research has shown that RNA modification plays an indispensable role in the occurrence, development and prognosis of kidney disease. A comprehensive understanding of RNA modification in kidney disease can help us understand the pathogenesis and prognosis of kidney disease. This article summarizes basic concept and regulatory role of four common RNA modifications: N6⁃methyladenosine (m6A ) modification, 5⁃methylcytidine (m5C) modification, adenosine to inosine (A⁃to⁃I) editing, and pseudouridylation(Ψ), aiming to provide reference for clinical and basic research.
