Abstract:
Abstract: gout is a common metabolic disorder characterized by hyperuricemia, acute gouty arthritis, recurrent tophi deposition and chronic arthritis, and usually resulting in kidney damage. There are several existing classification criteria for gout. The most widely used one is the 1977 American Rheumatology preliminary criteria for the classification of the acute arthritis of primary gout, in spite of obvious limitations. Recently a new classification criteria was developed by the American College of Rheumatology and the European League Against Rheumatism. This review is to introduce the development of classification criteria for gout and the formulation of the new classification.
