Abstract:

 ABSTRACT China has a high prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD imposes an enormous burden on public health resources for the reasons of development of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and complications of cardiovascular diseases. Galectin-3 is a member of the multifunctional proteins comprising soluble β-galactoside-binding lectins that have regulatory roles in fibrogenesis, inflammation, tissue repair and cell proliferation. This review will focus on the relevant research progresses of Galectin-3 in CKD.
