Therapeutic Plasma Apheresis in Kidney Transplantation

Abstract:

ABSTRACT Therapeutic plasma apheresis includes plasmapheresis, double filtration plasmapheresis and immunoadsorption. In renal transplantation, therapeutic plasma apheresis has been widely used in the removal of donor specific antibodies and other circulating factors and antibodies. It has been used to treat antibody mediated rejection and recurrent focal segmental glomerulosclerosis after kidney transplantation; to treat sensitized patients before transplantation. Furthermore, therapeutic plasma apheresis plays an important part in ABO-incompatible transplantation, which helps to expand the donor pool for living kidney donation.
