Metabonomics studies in diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy

Abstract:

ABSTRACT The prevalence of diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy was increasing in China, which has become an important threaten to the health of the population. Metabonomics is a part of systems biology, and is the nontargeted measurement of all low-molecular-weight compounds, that appear in a particular solid tissue or biofluid in a living organism. Metabonomics has become one of the most powerful tools for the study of diabetes and its complications, and it was used to find the biomarkers of risk prediction, early diagnosis, therapeutic effect and prognosis in diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy. In this article, we reviewed the metabonomics studies in these fields.
