Progress in circulating microRNA studies

  • Online:2012-04-28 Published:2012-04-18

Abstract:

Recent studies have demonstrated that microRNAs participate various critical physiological and pathological processes. Besides, miRNAs are found to be stable in body fluids, such as serum and plasma, and might be ideal novel biomarkers. Microvesicles can mediate cell to cell communication by delivering miRNAs to distant recipient cells. Thus, the studies of miRNAs will provide new insights into the pathogenesis of diseases, whereas circulating miRNAs are hoped to find their use as novel biomarkers in the diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of diseases. The aim of this brief review is to summarize the recent literatures concerning circulating miRNAs.
