Abstract:

With the extensive use of contrast media in clinic, contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) has become the common cause of hospital acquired acute renal injury. Early diagnosis and timely therapeutic measures can improve the prognosis. The promising biomarkers for the early diagnosis of CIN include cystatin C, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), IL-18, kidney injury molecule-1 (Kim-1)and liver-type fatty acid binding protein. In this article, we review these novel biomarkers which are widely paid attention to in recent clinical works and fundamental researches, compare them with each other and identify the eligible biomarkers for the early diagnosis of CIN.
