Abstract:

Objective:To evaluate the effect of carvedilol on cardiac function of hemodialysis patients with diabetic nephropathy.
Methodology:Seventytwo patients were collected in Guangdong General Hospital hemodialysis center from October 2009 to June 2013 in this retrospective study. They were divided into carvedilol therapy group (n=14) and control group (n=58). Echocardiography measurement was performed before and one year after treatment. Survival rate was compared between two groups.
Results:In the therapy group, the mean left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) after oneyear followup was elevated than that before treatment (P=0047 6). However, no similar improvement of LVEF was observed in the control group, but there was no significant difference of survival rates between two groups.
Conclusion:Carvedilol can improve the LVEF of hemodialysis patients with diabetic nephropathy.
