Abstract:

ABSTRACT: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a form of renal replacement therapy to end-stage diabetic nephropathy (ESDN). Since protein loss through dialysis and volume overload are more severe in diabetic patients than in non-diabetic patients and the application of glucose-containing solution, diabetic PD patients are more common to suffer from complications including glucose and lipid metabolic disorder, cardiovascular events, malnutrition, infection and micro-inflammation. Therefore, the application of peritoneal dialysis is not superior to hemodialysis (HD) in ESDN patients.
