Abstract:

Abstract Mortality of the hemodialysis patients is much higher than that of the general population, the main cause of death is cardiovascular diseases. Many hemodialysis patients experience a transient myocardial ischemia, causing the decline in myocardial contractility. After recovery of perfusion of the affected myocardium, its contractility takes a few hours to a few days or even weeks to fully recover. This phenomenon is called myocardial stunning. This article reviews the mechanism of myocardial stunning during hemodialysis, and its impact on the prognosis of patients.
